Energy cords?

The level that most people are not aware of, and that is important for the focus of this column, is energetically. When we give power away to other people because our relationship with self is dysfunctional, we actually allow cords of energy to tie us to those people. These cords (ribbons, cables, tethers, threads, strands) of energy exist on the Etheric plane - which is where the Life Force energy runs through the chakra system."

What are energy cords? How do they work? Can you cut them? Is it wise to cut these cords or work with them? Please explain.

Hi Jennifer.
A simple and profound practice is "pranayama", or breath modulation.
It is used by yoga practitioners at all levels.
It requires no specific religious philosophy.

It is used for many purposes, such as psychological balance, energy balancing, mind-body co-ordination, physical workout warm-ups and warm-downs, kundalini yoga, and as a key practice in Buddhist yogas of primordial pure awareness, such as Great Perfection and Great Seal.

There are also Buddhist kung fu breath modulation practices for martial arts which are sophisticated and powerful.

There are many excellent books available on pranayama.
A basic and most useful pranayama practice is alternate nostril breathing, which is taught in many variations, among the Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists. In Sanskrit this is known as nadi shodhana pranayam.

As with most yoga practices, be careful regarding sensitive times such as pregnancy or illness and do not practice when the stomach is full.

A major source of teaching on pranayama is the 3H0 Sikhs and Yogi Bhajan, who brought a tremendous amount of this material to the West. Do a google search for "kundalini yoga" + pranayam + "yogi bhajan". You can get 3H0 books on kundalini yoga from Ravi Singh and Guru Rattan Khaur Khalsa.

I have and use many texts on tantra and yoga as practitioner and as guru, and pranayama is always of enormous importance in the different lineages, and in my own practice. I began doing pranayam in 1980, and on at least one occasion it has saved my life.

Another major and most useful kind of practice is Sanskrit recitation, or mantrayana.
You can find a basic description of the Vajrasattva mantra at my tribe home, under the picture for "Hundred Syllable Mantra".

The primary source for transmissions of this kind of yoga is the esoteric Buddhist tantra, known to the public under the name "Tibetan Buddhism."

I have completed ten thousand hours of mantra.

A most basic and openly available mantra for healing and developing inner spiritual connections is the Buddhist goddess mantra for Tara:

OM TARE TUTTARE TURE MA ME AYU PUNYA JNANA PUSTIM KURU SVAHA

This is for wisdom ( jnana ), long life ( ayu ), noble qualities ( punya ), and spiritual energy ( pustim ). This is a good mantra for protection, for removing obstacles, and cleansing the magnetic field.

A basic practice would be to recite this 100,000 times, and it works better with visualization, pure intention and so forth.

If you can do some effective pranayama and some effective mantra then you are a functional yoga practitioner.
If you lack both pranayama and mantra, your practice will remain very very very limited.

This summer ( 2008 ) His Holiness Phakchok Rinpoche, a primary tantric Buddhist lineage holder, is on a major tour ( see below for events ), giving tantric Buddhist transmissions and teachings in the USA, Canada, and Europe. He is a younger major teacher in the Chokling Tersar tradition of Nyingma and Dzogchen ( see below ).

This lineage derives directly from Guru Padmasambhava, a most extraordinary Indian guru and a principal cofounder of the Buddhist tradition in Tibet. Today six million or more people practice teaching deriving from from Guru Padmasambhava, in for example the Tibetan traditions such as Sakya, Kagyu and Nyingma, including some millions of East Asians ( Chinese Buddhists of esoteric Buddhist lineage ).

This is a very magical, very powerful, and very yogic style of transmission, especially in terms of the inner practices. It is well supported by many independent practice lineages, of which the Chokling Tersar Foundation is an important example both in the USA and Europe. It is well established in California and Denmark, and several major teachers of this tradition give teaching tours.

This sangha ( spiritual fellowship ) is of major importance because Chokling Tersar Foundation has a translation / publishing organization called Rangjung Yeshe. This is one of the main sources worldwide for core Nyingma and dzogchen publications. I have and use quite a few Rangjung Yeshe practice and teaching texts. They are highest quality and indispensible for all Nyingma and dzogchen practitioners in particular, and broadly useful.

One of the most important books ever published for tantric Buddhists is
"Dakini Teachings", by Padmasambhava, and this is from Rangjung Yeshe.
Another key example, from the same source, is
"Light of Wisdom", by Padmasambhava and Jamgon Kongtrul.

For a general background on dzogchen, or "primordial awareness yoga", it is well worthwhile to obtain the book
"The Crystal and the Way of Light: Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen", written by another important master of a parallel Nyingma lineage, Chogyal Namkhai Norbu. This is about the best place to start for a book introduction to the inner teachings, which is descriptive only, and not practice per se.

Esoteric Buddhist yoga ( buddhatantra ) and Great Perfection ( dzogchen awareness yoga ) depend fundamentally on transmission, and so it is necessary to see a real teacher. Without a major transmission from an authentic guru, much or most of the teaching - and all of the yoga sadhana - does not work. Therefore I take this opportunity to make an important introduction.

( Please note that I DO NOT have any authority to represent Chokling Tersar Foundation, HH Phakchok Rinpoche, or any activity associated with this line of transmission. I am simple conveying what I know in a clear and definite way, to support this lineage and those who may benefit from it. I cannot make any promises that any of what is said here, or this kind of transmission, will solve any particular problem or give any particular result. The results are very personal and individualized. )

HH Phakchok Rinpoche Tendzin Jigmey Drakpa is not yet well known to the public, but is already having a great influence in transmitting key innermost teachings of tantra and dzogchen. Therefore it is auspicious and appropriate to make known this teacher and the availability of these teachings.

The qualifications of HH Phakchok Rinpoche are vast and profound ( see below for his autobiography ). He has highest-level authorization to give primary transmissions in both the Nyingma and Kagyu lineages, and is one of the few people who has a complete cycle of Sakya School tantric empowerments.

Two years ago I received a major dzogchen empowerment from this teacher, from within the Chokling Tersar, and personally confirm that his transmission is powerful and effective, not only as a tantric blessing / psychic cleansing, but also as a functional teaching and transmission. He is very direct and engaging and extraordinarily generous in his teaching. He is here to teach core precepts, not just bestow blessings. That means actual, whole person practice.

HH Phakchok Rinpoche gave me his card at the one time I was able to attend his transmission, so he is willing to personally engage students in a longer term sense. At that time he did lay on those present the general but significant requirement to Do A Daily Tantric Buddhist Practice, which is in fact the requirement of Guru Padmasambhava.

A daily practice typically means mantra recitation, as well as upholding ethical precepts of the Mahayana and Tantra. ( See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhisattva_vows or better yet, the above book "Dakini Teachings" for teaching on outer and inner Buddhist ethics. ) A primary example of mantra discipline is Vajrasattva deity yoga, for which a short teaching is given at my tribe.net home under the Sanskrit picture for Hundred Syllable mantra.

A specific event listing for the Yangdak Heruka transmission and teaching to be given August 16, 17 & 18 follows. Orgyen Dorje Den can host at least 200 participants. This is a remarkably important group, and a "home fellowship" for me, though I have not seen them in many years. Their center teacher, Ven. Gyaltrul Rinpoche, is a great gift to the West. I have and use and recommend his books.

Basically, it is from the Eight Herukas Cycle which is associated with the Guhyagarbha Tantra, which was propagated as one of the primary practices of Guru Padmasambhava. This fully confers Vajrasattva, a key basic and continung practice, and *may* fully confer Great Perfection / Breakthrough as well ( no guarantee ).

Significant mantra teaching on the Eight Herukas is given in the remarkable book

When asked for some brief info about Yangdak Heruka, Rinpoche, translating from a text, replied the following in a phone call:
"Yangdak Heruka is the secret heart essence practice of Mahapandita Vimalamitra & Guru Padmasambhava. As a method to repair mistakes, purify broken samaya and reverse bad karma it is greater than even Vajrasattva. According to Ratna Lingpa, it is a supreme method for yogis to fulfill the root & branch samaya of vinaya, mahayana & vajrayana precepts & it will enable the practitioner to receive the 2 siddhis and have a long life. It requires accumulated merit from past lives to meet with these teachings and through practice you will see how fast the siddhis will be received. This terma is a revelation of Chogyur Lingpa--it is a short lineage--he revealed it on Guru Rinpoche Day from a Big Boulder. It is part of the Sangtik Korsum, which is a cycle of practice which also includes Vajrasattva & Vajrakilaya." This is the first time Rinpoche is giving the Yangdak Heruka empowerment in the USA.

Chokling Tersar, the New Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa ( copyrighted )
During the ninth century, Buddhism was introduced from India into Tibet and its literature and culture has since been preserved in a way that has been unique in accuracy and truthfulness to tradition. Four decades ago, the occupation of Tibet by Communist China began an era of repression and systematic destruction of this thousand year old Buddhist culture. Shreds of this tradition reached the countries on the southern slopes of the Himalaya ranges - India, Nepal and Bhutan - in the hands of the few refugees who managed to escape alive. During the following years these areas have been the meeting-point and a forum of exchange between a large number of people from all countries of the world.

In response to the heart-wish of Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, the Chokling Tersar Foundation was established. It is in the spirit of wishing to protect and preserve one of the important contributions to the world's cultural heritage, as well as responding to a growing demand within North America, that the members of Chokling Tersar Foundation support the foundation through donations of effort, money and prayers.

Chokling Tersar literally means the 'new treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa' and owes it name to the great Tibetan Buddhist master of the 19th century. Chokgyur Lingpa lived from (1829-1870) and was regarded by the most reputable living masters of his time as one of the major tertons (revealer of hidden treasures) in Tibetan history. His teachings are widely practiced by both the Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

The collection of treasures revealed by Chokgyur Lingpa together with its connected teachings are contained in the Chokling Tersar, a body of literature filling more than forty large volumes. In English translation each of these volumes would be between seven and eight hundred pages and the total would amount to approximately 30,000 pages. The connected teachings included in these forty volumes were written over the last 150 years, chiefly by his contemporaries Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgon Kongtrul, as well as by the subsequent upholders of the lineage down until today.

Kangyur - the TripitakaThe Chokling Tersar literature is meant to be studied and practiced as an addition to the traditional canonical scriptures of Tibetan Buddhism. These traditional scriptures are found in the Kangyur and Tengyur, the written words of Buddha Shakyamuni and their commentaries by learned Indian Masters. These two collections occupy respectively 104 and 273 large volumes.

In these scriptures are found detailed instructions on how to take full advantage of and imbue human life with its fullest meaning. These revealed scriptures were concealed by the 9th century Buddhist saint Padmasambhava with the expressed wish to be uncovered at specific times in the future. Many of them contain predictions for those times and which particular spiritual practices would be most beneficial for the people of those times.

It is written that this part of the cosmos that we know of, this universe, this galaxy, this solar system, and this sun structured itself over 21 billion years ago. Billions and billions of years of jet blackness, dark black matter, dark black energy, and black holes then came light and life.

There was a time when only blackness prevailed in everything and in all things. In the beginning all was black. There was no universe but there was dark black energy, the immortal unity and struggle of female/male matter and spirit, pure energy and impulse, that created itself out of itself. Blackness and darkness led to light---not the other way around.

In a majestic struggle between matter and anti-matter bonded energy eventually formed elementary particles, elements-stars-planets-solar systems-galaxies-complete universes. These solar organisms bonded together with gravitational forces which formed solar systems and clusters of galaxies. This gravitational soup became the cosmic webbing of the infant universe which continually expanded-changed-developed.

From this universe came our galaxy, then our solar system. Within this solar system formed a sun-nine planets-moons-asteroids-comets with all being electro-magnetically held together by precisely balanced gravitational attraction and repulsion. Constantly in motion, having no days off, moving at colossal speeds stars are suns with their own rings of planets revolve on their axis and turn with the entire galaxy as it turns on its own axis.

Each star---its own universe on fire---is a blazing fiery solar hurricane. Its entire surface is in a state of bubbling, erupting, burning, hot agitation with colossal fiery heat waves passing over the turbulent stars burning hot surface. Galactic fire streams shot out as gigantic streams of internal heat, pulsating, throbbing, illuminating, pouring forth into space in the form of radiation---giving live to planets and their moons. Physical gravitational fields connect the particles allowing them to interact and thus exist.

Without this nothing would connect the stars in the galaxies or the substance itself within the starts and planets. There would be no solar systems, stars, or planets, without electromagnetic fields. Nothing would connect electrons and protons in atoms into molecules and molecules into tissue. From elementary particles to nucleus from nuclei and electrons there came atoms from atoms came molecules from molecules and their aggregates gaseous-liquid-solid bodies formed bodies that make up stars and their satellites, the planets and their satellites.

Twenty-one billion years of matter and antimatter flowing down the majestic cosmic ladder from universes to super clusters, galaxy clusters, galaxies, star clusters, quasars, pulsars, stars, solar systems, planets, other celestial bodies to molecular complexes, crystals, molecules, atoms, elementary nuclear particles, photons, force fields, quantum levels, to sub-quantum elements. These solar organisms bonded together with gravitational forces, which formed solar systems and clusters of galaxies.

This gravitational soup became the cosmic webbing of the infant universe, which continually expanded, changed, developed. This process resulted from explosions of anti-matter and matter which produced the bonded energy which eventually formed elements, stars, planets, solar systems, galaxies, and complete universes. The materials of these solar organism such as stars, gas, energy particles, cosmic debris, planets, asteroids, comets, nebulae, black holes, etc., are bonded together by gravitational forces which form solar systems and clusters of galaxies which are continually expanding, moving, changing.

In sum, from this universe came our galaxy. Then our solar system. Within this solar system formed a sun, nine planets-moons-asteroids-comets with all being electro-magnetically held together by precisely balanced gravitational attraction and repulsion. This system was and is constantly in motion, having no days off. It moves at colossal speeds.

A Multidimensional Experience of Reality

THE “SUCKFACE” INCIDENT (Part I)

In the late seventies I worked part time delivering desserts to hotels and restaurants from South San Francisco to San Jose for a San Francisco bakery. Since I was also editing and publishing Coordinate Point, a magazine that explored the nature of consciousness and being, I often talked about dreams and psychic phenomena with the people I met in my travels. Catherine seemed as interested as any. She was a new friend and business customer from South San Francisco. During an animated discussion about dreams and intuitive experiences late in 1979, I asked her if she had ever participated in a Guided Imagery Exercise (GIE). She didn’t know what Guided Imagery was so I described the process to her and shared one of my favorite experiences with her. When I finished, she asked me to conduct a Guided Imagery Exercise for her and some friends. I agreed, and we set up a time for the following week.

Here’s the guided imagery experience I shared with Catherine. I call it Healing by Fire.

In guided imagery one person acts as the storyteller or guide while the other participants lie down, relax, and close their eyes. Once the participants are fully relaxed, usually through a series of relaxation exercises, the storyteller constructs an imaginary scene and offers suggestions to focus, guide, and stimulate the participants’ creative abilities, just like thoughts and emotions stimulate our creative abilities in dreams and imagination. The results depend on each person’s ability to relax and get out of the way of his or her consciousness, so it can flesh out the story line and allow the story to take on a life of its own!

Healing by Fire
The first Guided Imagery Exercises I participated in involved the spirits of earth, fire, wind (air), and water. We met once a week and each week, for a month, we used one of these basic elements to build a story around. My favorite was the fire exercise.

After conducting a relaxation exercise, the storyteller described a scene with trees, green grass, and wild flowers. He encouraged us to enter the scene. The scenic elements were so pleasant and non-threatening, I found it easy to enter into the scene. Encouraging us to explore our surroundings, I tumbled in the grass, smelled the flowers and floated up into the trees for a closer look. After several minutes, the storyteller told us to “see” the path winding through the trees. He instructs us to follow it. He suggested we could walk, run, float, roll, tumble, or fly, whatever suited our fancy. I chose to float, and after some initial difficulty, did so quite successfully. Guided to an open field, we were told to see a fire burning off to one side of the path. Again, several alternatives were suggested. One suggestion is a roaring bonfire and the other is a burning house. Once we see our fire of choice, we’re told to go to it and enter it. For my experience, I chose a burning house.

It’s a short distance off the path to my left and nearly burned to the ground. There’s still some debris burning around the edges and in the middle of the house. My fear of being burned grows as I step into the flames. I remind myself I’m not in my physical body therefore, the flames can’t hurt me. Surprisingly, the flames feel cool and breezy as they lap against my legs. Enjoying these new sensation, I walked to the center of the house where the tallest flames were. Slowly, a large column of flame rose up in front of me and seemed to huddle against my chest. As I looked at it, an arm-like extension of flame reached out from the right side of its body and penetrated the left side of my chest. Before I could react, I felt something like a hand wrap around my heart and begin to knead it gently and lovingly.

Somehow, in this alternate reality a doorway for healing had been opened. For many years I sensed a growing hardness in my heart from being so angry at the world for not being what I thought it should be. The continued kneading of my heart by the Fire Being, or Spirit, released strong feelings of love and compassion in me. With a complete sigh of relief, I completely relaxed into the experience.

The Storyteller spoke again and gently suggested it was time to bring our experience to an end. As his suggestion slowly filtered through my mind, the Flame Spirit withdrew its fiery hand from inside my chest. Growing an new appendage from the left side of its body, it reached up over my right shoulder and around the back of my neck for support. Then it leaned back and looked into my face. With the fiery hand it had used to massage my heart, it reached up and gently brushed the left side of my face, like a mother expressing love and sadness before parting. After one final hug, it slowly let go of me and sank back down into the flames still burning around my legs. With sadness, I turned and walked out of the burning house and back to the pathway. As I retraced my steps, I mentally relived my experience with the Fire Being and marveled at the magic and wonder of it all. It had been a profound, maybe even life-saving healing experience for me!

When I arrived at Catherine’s house in South San Francisco she was home alone but expecting two friends. When they arrived it became clear neither one them knew what Guided Imagery was. They asked me if it was a form of hypnotism or subliminal suggestion. They were concerned about giving control of themselves over to someone they didn’t know and trust. I understood their fears and tried to reassure them by telling them it was a form of storytelling that allowed them to role-play. I went on to say Guided Imagery is essentially a waking dream, one that the dreamer has control over. I don’t know whether it was their skepticism, my poor explanation, or a lack of experience on their part, but after the exercise only Catherine said she “thought” she saw something when I suggested they see a scene of trees, green grass, and flowers in their minds. The other two participants echoed each other with, “All I could see was the back side of my eyelids.” Maybe imaginations need exercise too, like muscles.

Despite the poor results Catherine and her friends experienced, the longer I spent conducting the Guided Imagery Exercise, the more relaxed and intuitive I had become, unknowingly setting the stage for what was to come. When I left Catherine’s house for the drive north up highway 101, to my home in San Francisco, I felt very playful and alive. I could feel my body virtually tingling with spiritual energy!

THE “SUCKFACE” INCIDENT

The late night traffic on the five-lane Bayshore Freeway (Hwy. 101) was light, so I settled into the middle lane and drove at the speed limit, 55mph. Highway 101, between South San Francisco and San Francisco, is five lanes wide to accommodate the extra traffic generated by the presence of San Francisco International Airport and Candlestick (later, 3 Com, now Monster) Park. Less than a minute after I settled into a comfortable groove (middle lane, 55mph), two rough looking guys on a Harley Davidson slowly passed me on the right, in lane number 2. As I watched them move by, their “look” triggered a torrent of playful observations and judgments, like: Wow, these guys really look rough! I wonder how many years they’ve spent in places like San Quentin knocking out license plates with dirty acronyms? (a personal joke here because I often spend time turning the letters on license plates into sexually explicit statements to amuse myself as I drive.) And look at those identical Mackinaw coats they’re wearing - they look brand new! I wonder which warehouse they stole them from? (Mackinaw coats are short winter coats, made of a thick, woolen, commonly plaid material. They were once popular in the northern and western United States, worn by many Indians and lumbermen)

As amusing as these thoughts are, I can’t help but notice how I’m slicing and dicing my two new road companions into pieces (categorizing and stereotyping them). In a moment’s glance, I have these two guys accused, judged, and hung. To salve a faint twinge of guilt, I remind myself that I’m only playing with surface issues, that deep down, I know we’re all one and basically good. This makes the situation even more fun because, now, I think, as long as I don’t take my thoughts too seriously, I can be as playful and outrageous as I please. Not!

As soon as he passes my front bumper the motorcycle driver turns to enter my lane without signaling. Observing this rude and dangerous move, the passenger quickly sticks his left arm out to apologize and signal the turn. Adding fuel to the fire of my imagination, the motorcycle driver reaches back with his left arm and starts pounding his friend’s arm as hard as he can, to make him put it down. What was that all about, I wonder? Damn, are these guys really thieves? Did they really break into a warehouse and steal their Mackinaw coats? How many did they steal? Where were they hiding them? Who are they selling them to, and, jokingly, how much money are they going to make from the deal? After this wild flurry of questions my thoughts settle down, and once the driver of the motorcycle establishes a steady and safe distance between us, my thoughts turn in new directions, until I see the two men take the same freeway interchange I have to take to get home. Suddenly my full attention is back on them with growing irritation and concern.

As we approach the Fell Street Off-Ramp, the exit closest to my home, I find myself holding my breath and “willing” the pair on to the next exit, but to no avail. As fate, or magic, would have it, we are meant to continue our private little drama until it reaches some undisclosed and, hopefully, meaningful conclusion. So once again I watch as the motorcycle passenger signals their turn and the driver reaches back to pound on his arm, even more viciously than he did before. Why is this guy so goddamned contemptuous and angry, I wonder? And, why isn’t the red light at the foot of the off-ramp turning green for Christ sake, there’s no traffic around? So here we are, at the foot of the Fell Street off-ramp, which splits into five lanes, waiting for the light to change. The two men on the motorcycle are in the middle lane, waiting to ride up Fell Street Hill, and I’m in the far right lane, waiting to turn right onto Laguna Street. The stop line angles back for the turn onto Laguna Street, so I’m stopped several feet behind the motorcycle. Feeling safe from this vantage point, I carefully scrutinize my two new “friends” while waiting for the light to change, which seems to take forever! As I study them, I think, Where did the driver get the money to buy such a nice motorcycle? With his temper, I don’t see how he can hold a regular job. Also, I wonder, What circumstances brought these two guys together and what kind of relationship do they have? The passenger seems to be pretty well meaning.

Suddenly, my mind and body are on full alert! Sheer panic or “inner” knowing takes control of my body and forces me to shift my eyes slightly forward of the driver’s position and up at a Victorian house on the hill, a block or so beyond him. As my eyes come to a rest on the Victorian, the motorcycle driver whips around and screams at me, “What are you looking at, Suckface?” Before the words finish leaving his mouth he realizes, with a look of shock, that I’m not looking at him but at something beyond him. He whips around to the front as fast as he had turned on me. Even though the energy of his words is reverberating through my mind, I keep a look of innocence on my face, as if to say, Are you talking to me?, as I slowly bring my eyes back to rest on him. His emotional outburst was so graphic and powerful, the image of a man’s face with the mouth area sucked in, in a lurid reference to male homosexuality, appears in my mind. When my eyes focus on him again, he’s staring straight ahead with a look of utter desperation on his face, a look that says, “Come on light, change - let me out of here!”

Still shaken from the violence of his outburst, I continue to study the driver, his passenger, and the motorcycle, until a strange movement at the top of the driver’s head attracts my attention. Curious and somewhat apprehensive, I watch as another head begins to emerge through the top of his. This new head, bald and bodiless, is soon floating free in the air above the driver’s head. Mask-like and real at the same time, it slowly turns to face me, locking its hypnotic, shiny black eyes onto mine. With grinning arrogance and a look of hungry anticipation on its face, it starts to move toward me, sizing me up as it comes. As the gap closes between us, I suspect that this “thing” is a living manifestation, a psychic projection of quasi-matter, given birth by the sheer intensity of the driver’s thoughts and emotions. Somehow, I’m perceiving inner reality and outer reality simultaneously, and I can shift between the two at will.

As the bodiless head moves closer, it cunningly rises to a position above my head to stay beyond my reach, and begins to change before my eyes. I watch in amazement as it transforms into a circular stone wheel with two flat sides. The side facing me has lines etched into the surface to form eyes, ears, and a nose. Below the hint of a nose is a large gaping mouth hole that goes completely through the stone. As the stone face hovers over my head, I’m reminded of a primitive Sun God. The large eyes are closed and deep grooves radiate out from them like rays of the sun. I wonder, did my fear stop it, or did it stop on its own. Suspecting the latter, I wonder what will happen next. What kind of disturbed energy did the motorcycle driver unleash when he turned and yelled at me so violently? Suddenly, the face springs to life! The stony eyelids fly open while the very stone itself reverts back to its original human shape and flesh tone. The head’s shiny black eyes once again lock onto mine, and with a look of maniacal glee, it swoops down, open-neck first, to force its way down over my head. Fearing it wants to possess me mind, body and soul, I quickly reach up to defend myself.

I force my thumbs up inside the opening of the mask’s skin-like rubbery neck before it can completely slip down over my head, and clamp my fingers down tightly on the flesh at both sides. This gives me control over the mask as it alternately struggles to force itself down over my head and free itself from my grasp. As we struggle, thoughts race through my mind about what will happen to me if this disturbed personality wins the battle. Frightened by this possibility, I strengthen my resolve to fight it off.

Sensing the growing strength of my rejection, the mask redoubles its efforts to alternately force its way down over my head and break free of my grasp. My arms are beginning to feel like dead weights but I refuse to let go. As our violent struggle continues, I become another me standing on some grass next to a wooden fence in the residential area of a large city. Nighttime lights illuminate the street as I hold the almost lifeless mask in my hands. Every once in a while it flutters weakly, letting me know it’s still alive. In a fleeting moment of sympathy, before it completely dies, I release it, half expecting it to fall to the ground. Instead, it floats up into the air. Much to my regret, it quickly takes on new life and starts to move out over the darkened city with a look of renewed hope and determination. Using my inner senses, I follow the mask at a discreet distance as it combs the city streets and buildings looking for a new victim, one more willing than I. Invisible to him, I watch as he feels out potential victims. Finally he settles on a depressed looking young man sitting on a park bench. I’m amazed at how fast he subdues his new victim. The young man almost gratefully accepts the “Suckface” personality, as the mask easily slips down over his head. Using a kind of psychic shorthand to skip forward in time and space, I watch as a total biological and psychological transformation of the young man takes place. The human body that once belonged to him now belongs to “Suckface”, the personality forged from the anger and contempt of the motorcycle driver, still impatiently sitting beside me at the foot of Fell Street Hill.

Next, an all white room swims into focus. “Suckface” is standing in the middle of the room naked, except for a small loincloth and wide, studded leather belts. One belt is wrapped around his waist while the other one, attached at the right side of his waist, runs up his chest and down over his left shoulder, attaching to the waist belt in the back, like a bandoleer. Holding a leather Cat-O-Nine-Tail whip in his right hand, he uses it to both sexually stimulate and punish the naked, submissive man crawling on the floor in front of him. A quick flashback shows Suckface picking him up on the street earlier with the promise of food, wine, and wild, uninhibited sex. Watching this scene from a point in the air between the two men, I know the man on the floor will get his night of wild, uninhibited sex, but he’s also going to get something he doesn’t suspect. At the end of this long night of sexual abandon and sadistic pleasure, he’ll be killed and, like others before him, his body parts will be dismembered, wrapped in plastic, and distributed throughout the city for the police to find.

The contempt and loathing Suckface feels for himself and the other homosexual men he meets has grown in proportion to his homosexual activity and the public’s condemnation of it. Unable to resolve these two strongly opposing forces, he has become self-destructive. While outwardly seething with contempt for those who condemn him and his behavior, unconsciously he accepts their condemnation as the condemnation of his father, the motorcycle driver. Unconsciously, he looks for ways to appease this energy. Ironically, he chooses to destroy those who give him the most love and pleasure in life, his male sexual partners. In this way he’s able to express his contempt for society and punish himself at the same time. Deep down he knows that playing this gruesome game of cat-and-mouse with the police will eventually lead to his own destruction but, outwardly, he denies the possibility.

I watch from an invisible point in the air as Suckface moves through the city streets, hiding the bloody body parts of his latest victim. He’s offering up a sacrifice to the limitation and fear that condemns his behavior, “one more dead “queer” for those who hate queers”, he thinks. Unable to resist the urge to pay the ultimate price, he taunts the detective in charge of investigating his murder victims through a series of cryptic letters. He laughs at the detective for not being able to find him and put a stop to the reign of terror he’s inflicting on the city’s homosexual community. Knowing the police are closing in on him in this alternate reality, I return to the present and renew my grip on the struggling mask.

With these terrible thoughts fresh in my mind, I decide my course of action. The Suckface personality, forged from the negative thoughts and emotions of the motorcycle driver, will not gain its freedom today! Enough anger and contempt is loose within the world already. As my resolve solidifies, I return my attention to the mask. Staring down at me the look on its face changes; where once it wore a look of arrogance, strength and superiority, now it wears a look of fear and exhaustion. Strengthening my grip on the mask, I project my astral or energy body through the car window, like Plastic Man from the comic books, and try to jamb it down over the motorcycle driver’s head, more than ten feet away. Although my move catches him off guard, he reacts quickly and forces me all the way back into my car. Again and again, we drive one another’s energy bodies back and forth in a pitched battle, neither one of us willing to accept final possession of the mask.

As the motorcycle driver and I grimly fight on, both refusing to accept ownership of the mask, a look of apprehension and fear grows on the mask’s face. Finally, with a look of utter shock and dismay, it gives up, letting the glow of life that once strongly animated its features, drain from its being. Surprisingly, I feel a touch of sadness. The motorcycle driver and I are now battling over a limp, lifeless rubber mask. Still determined not to keep it, I reach over and attempt to stuff it into the right hand pocket of the driver’s Mackinaw coat. Still unwilling to accept responsibility for it, he again rejects my attempt to put the mask in his pocket and angrily pushes my hand back at me with the mask still in it.

Finally, the traffic light turns green and we both have to shift our attention back to the outside world long enough to get our vehicles moving. As the motorcycle driver and his passenger head up Fell Street Hill, I turn right onto Laguna Street. I still don’t want to keep the dead mask so I reach back again to stuff it into his coat pocket but to no avail. He still refuses to accept it. After several more fruitless attempts, I arrive home two blocks away to park my car, clean up, and go to bed.

Lying in bed next to my sleeping wife, I find myself unable, or unwilling, to let the Suckface incident go unresolved. Doggedly, I start rerunning the image of the motorcycle driver heading up Fell St. Hill. In each sequence, I put the mask in his pocket but every time I remove my hand the mask comes with it, as if it was glued to my fingers.

Before sleep can claim me, I start an internal dialogue with the motorcycle driver. I admit to him that, As we drove north from South San Francisco together, I was amazed and amused by your look and behavior. I apologize for making fun of him and, in an attempt at humor, I add, But it did look strange to see you beat your buddy’s arm so violently just for signaling turns! He kind of laughs and I volunteer that, I had no right to pick on you. I’m sorry. With this admission a sense of brotherhood and understanding blossoms between us and I use this moment to remind him that, When you did turn around to yell at me, I wasn’t looking at you, and that alone should be reason enough for you to take responsibility for disposing of this mask. With my appeal to his sense of fairness, he reaches down and opens his coat pocket, giving me permission to place the dead mask inside, which I do. My final view of him is his back as he drives up Fell St. Hill and disappears over the top, taking the mask with him and out of my life forever. With this delightful image still in my mind, I role over onto my left side and fall fast asleep, in peace.

On 13 July in Seattle Washington a Ganapati empowerment will be offered at Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism. The guru bestowing this empowerment is the tantric master of Sakya Monastery, His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Rinbochay. See www.sakya.org for more information.

For this reason it is timely and appropriate to provide some basic teaching and perspective on Ganapati, and in particular an esoteric Hindu Ganapati mantra and also a Sanskrit Buddhist praise of Ganapati. Many diverse teachings on this deity in Hindu form are available on the internet ( under both Ganapati and Ganesh ).

The Buddhist Ganapati is also referenced in the Tibetan Buddhist traditions of the Nyingma ( e.g. Longchen Nyingtik ) and Gelugpa lineages ( see practice texts for www.fpmt.org ). There is also Buddhist practice of Ganapati in the esoteric Buddhist Japanese tradition known as Shingon, which came East via China and not Tibet.

Briefly, Ganapati means Lord of the Troop, and Ganesh basically means Elephant Headed One. Ganapati is known by the title “Remover of Obstacles” or “Lord of Obstacles”. He carries or represents the enormous power of the Elephant. He is often accompanied by two female consorts Riddhi and Siddhi ( Magical Accomplishment and Spiritual Accomplishment ).

Ganapati is very prominent and even central in Hindu practice and is often evoked at the beginning of important engagements or projects, such as making a journey or starting employment, or beginning a meditation practice session. I have seen dance evocation of Ganapati at the beginning of a Hindu temple dance concert. Ganapati is one of the main practices of Hindu business people for success in their commercial ventures.

Ganapati is strongly associated with the “national spirit” or Mother India as well as her earliest roots. In the distant past elephants were used throughout India to clear land for agriculture, and also as war elephants. More recently, public Hindu celebrations were banned by the occupying British and the outlawed Ganapati ceremonies were brought forth, successfully, to rally India against foreign rule.

It is said that the long “History of India” was transcribed by the deity Ganapati as given by Rishi Visvamitra. Many of the key texts of Sanatana Dharma ( Hinduism ) were written down by Ganapati. So, this practice is a primary connection to Vedic Culture. Due to this, Ganapati is also practiced by students to help with their secular school exams.

Ganapati has a very ambivalent status in Buddhist tantra, the esoteric form of Buddhist meditation which relies on yoga, deity recitations and mystic practices in general. On the one hand, Ganapati is often considered unfriendly towards Buddhist practitioners in general, and propitiated or banished or subjugated so as to not cause problems. Thus, a subjugated Ganapati serves as the throne for the deity Mahakala in his Six Armed form. This reflects the fact that some but not all Hindu practice / culture affirms Buddhist teachings.

On the other hand, there are specifically Buddhist practices for Ganapati, as for other Hindu deities such as Shiva, Sarasvati and so forth. The Sakya lineage carries Buddhist deity yogas for the Hindu deities Uma Devi / Parvati and Garuda, as well as Ganapati. ( In Southern Buddhism, such as in Sri Lanka Theravada monasteries, it is common to propitiate the Hindu deity Visnu for outer or worldly benefits. )

More broadly, many Buddhist schools share with the Sanatana Dharma ( i.e. Hindu practice and culture ) a significant focus on Ayurveda, or spiritual medicine. The Buddhist deity Bhaisajyaguru, or Medicine Buddha, is a deity of Buddhist spiritual medicine and Ayurveda in both Hindu and Buddhist forms is more or less identical in practice, not just similar.

In the classical Sakya tradition, this Twelve Arm Ganapati is actually an emanation of Avalokitesvara, the beloved and universal Buddhist deity of liberating compassion. Thus, it is reasonable to view this empowerment as being a definite connection to Avalokitesvara and the general practices of Avalokitesvara.

It is also very important to note that with this ( or any ) tantric Buddhist empowerment comes the general set of universal Buddhist vows, such as the Ten Precepts ( rejection of harmfulness, theft, dishonesty, ill-will and so forth ), and the Bodhisattva vows. The Bodhisattva vows focus on active humanitarian service in the most broad and deep and long term ways, starting with rejection of limiting ideas such as racism, sexism, tribalism, and all cultural divisiveness.

This book is short, direct, accessible, classical and effective. It should be. It was transcribed as spoken directly to westerners by one of the greatest Buddhist masters of the last century.

To take the tantric Buddhist empowerment of Ganapati or any other is to take Mahayana Buddhist vows, as well as to become authorized to do magical kinds of practice, such as mantra recitation to develop the power of the deity. The point is that in this case, the Hindu/ Buddhist deity Ganapati is practiced within a classical Buddhist context, not otherwise. Thus the above mentioned Buddhist references are of central importance in this transmission and practice.

As a brilliant red deity aspect, Twelve Armed Ganapati is not only a remover of obstacles and disharmonious circumstances, but also a magnetizing deity, i.e. a deity that “warms up” social situations, and develops strongly positive interpersonal engagement.

On a yogic level, this deity ( in Buddhist deity yoga ) develops strength and power at the level of the navel point of the psychic energy body ( svadhisthana cakra ), although I cannot say more without transgressing tantric vows of secrecy. Note that the Hindu Ganapati is girded by snakes, representing kundalini energy, and is similarly associated with the energy at the base of the spinal column. All tantric transmissions are private, and their contents not to be discussed following initiation.

This is one of many specifically obstacle-removing diety yogas in Buddhist tantra. There are many others, but this one is definitely recommended for those who have a more Hindu-oriented background in culture and/ or personal karma. And as noted earlier, it is a connection to Avalokitesvara practice specifically, and to the outer Mahayana practices in general.

This can also be viewed ( speaking very unofficially ) as a connection to Hindu transmissions. ) For this reason I will now provide a specifically Hindu mantra for Ganapati, which has been confirmed. It is quite reasonable to say that on obtaining a Twelve Arm Ganapati empowerment, one may practice the following Hindu mantra as well.

The following is not an official representation, but I do have the Sakya lineage Ganapati transmission some twenty years back from HE Luding Khen Rinbochay. This Sakya initiation is for a Twelve Arm Red Ganapati, equivalent in many respects to the Hindu deity Ganesh or Ganapati. Many diverse teachings on this deity in Hindu form are available on the internet ( under both Ganapati and Ganesh ). The Buddhist Ganapati is also referenced in the Tibetan Buddhist traditions of the Nyingma and Gelugpa lineages.

His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya, head lama of Sakya Monastery, was born in Tibet in 1929. He continues the great Sakya lineage which began with Khon Konchok Gyalpo (1034—1102). He received teachings of the unbroken Khon lineage, the Sakya Vajrakilaya, the Hevajra and the complete Lamdre Tsogshe, from his father, H.H. Trichen Ngawang Thutop Wangchul, the last Sakya throne holder in Tibet. He also studied with many other great Buddhist teachers, including Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi and Dingo Khyentse Robsal Dawa.
In 1960, H.H. J.D. Sakya was invited to work on a University of Washington research project on Tibetan civilization which was sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation. At the request of students, he co-founded with H.E. Dezhung Rinpoche Sakya Tegchen Choling, a center for the study of Tibetan Buddhism and culture. In 1984, the center became the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism.

20 Astral Keys to Gates of Universal Consciousness

Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist who developed the field of analytical psychology and introduced the concept of archetypes of consciousness being "innate universal psychic dispositions that form the substrate from which the basic themes of human life emerge. Being universal and innate, their influence can be detected in the form of myths, symbols, rituals and instincts of human beings. Archetypes are components of the collective unconscious and serve to organize, direct and inform human thought and behaviour. ...archetypes heavily influence the human life cycle, propelling a neurologically hard-wired sequence which he called the stages of life. Each stage is mediated through a new set of archetypal imperatives which seek fulfillment in action."[1]

Centuries before Jung, the Maya introduced the very similar concept of Archetypes of Divine Consciousness. (According to the Maya, there are 20 of them.) Likewise, these Archetypes form the substrate from which individual Divine Consciousness emerges. CHOOSING LOVE INSTEAD OF FEAR (the only reason we're here!)

The only reason we incarnate is to learn how to choose love instead of fear. It does not matter what you do for a living, where you live, or who you marry, etc. The only purose you have is to extend love to everyone you come into contact with, including yourself. This is how you BECOME what you already ARE: LOVE. The only way to restore perfect inner peace that is stable and unwavering is to choose to be willing to extend love to everyone you come into contact with, including yourself.

By "love" I mean unconditional acceptance. And by "unconditional acceptance" I mean God. By "you" I mean me. And by "me" I mean you. We are all ONE and we are all LOVE. And by "we" I mean GOD. And by "God" I mean LOVE...You get the picture!

The most amazing miracle has transpired in my life over the last 24 hours as a result of my own sincere willingness to be a vessell for love, to be a vessell for that which I AM, which is God. I wanted to share...

I put a profile on My Space about a month ago. I saw a woman on there named Joni Ellen Jenkins. This is my name. I almost asked her to join my friend list but hesitated and then did nothing. I had a very stressful custody hearing scheduled with my son's father yesterday. When I got home from the courthouse yesterday there was an e-mail from Joni Ellen Jenkins who lives in Pennsylvania. Her e-mail address is jonijenks@gmail.com and mine is jonijenkins@gmail.com. She had suspected that her insurance company had sent e-mails meant for her to me. Sure enough I had the e-mails in my box that day. We started to breifly chat and make small talk through e-mails. She invited me to join her friend list on My Space. One thing led to another and she told me she had cancer and is only a 40 year old mom. I am a 39 year old mom. I started writing to her from a spiritual perspective, and then suddenly I realized what was going on!

Oh my God, I think that meeting you has been the greatest gift God has ever given me!

I have been trying to release all my own walls to self love, with perfect inner peace being the goal. I have made much progress but there was still a little bit of work left.

I went through a traumatizing custody trial with my son's father yesterday, but won. However the experience made me more aware of my own walls to love. When I came home from the courthouse I got your e-mails.

I know why I hesitated when I first saw the My Space profile. There was a timing issue. I was meant to make contact with you right after court when my own fears were so triggered and my walls to love were easy to see.

When you told me about the cancer my heart was flooded with so much love and compassion for you. It is always easier to see someone else's perfection and divinity than your own. It is always easier to see someone else's wall to self love than it is to see your own. As I was loving you and contemplating that we have the exact same name, Joni Ellen Jenkins, the reality that we (all of humanity) really are ONE permeated my consciousness. I had the profound realization that by deeply loving and forgiving you (Joni Ellen Jenkins) I was deeply loving and forgiving myself (Joni Ellen Jenkins).

The truth is that you are love, you are God, and you are soooooooooo powerful and perfect. All you need do is forgive yourself for forgetting the truth. That is always easier said than done. And all I need do is forgive myself for forgetting the truth. By loving you so deeply I have let down yet another wall to self-love and that is the greatest gift I have ever received. When I love you I love myself becasue we are, in truth, ONE. The fact that we have the same name is just a coincidence, but has aided me in dramatically shifting and healing my perception.

You truly are God--you knew exactly when the right time was to contact me so that the highest form of healing would take place for both of us.

The Mayan Sacred Calendar and Solar Wind

The Mayan Sacred Calendar (the Tzolkin) is said to be a graphic representation of a Logic transmitted by star harmonics that unlock doors of Universal Consciousness and interdimensional reality. If so, it ought to sound something like solar wind, right. Having translated the Tzolkin into sound, we offer you a comparison between that and actual NASA recorded solar wind.

When the Tzolkin's harmonic Logic is sequenced in the sonic register and played back at high speed, it sounds very much like solar wind recorded by the Voyager spacecraft, also played back at high speed. The primary dif being the Tzolkin is composed of only 13 harmonics and the solar wind has them all.
